Seedance 2.5 Downloads: Back Up Videos Before Files Expire

Sep 7, 2026

On Seedance 2.5, open My Creations, find the completed video and use Download to save it. Back up important files promptly: the current notice says media from tasks submitted from August 20, 2026 at 11:00 UTC is retained for 14 days, while generation records, prompts and other non-media data are retained for 2 months. A visible record is therefore not a permanent video backup.

This guide applies to this website's account and storage workflow. It is not a policy for every Seedance provider or ByteDance's own services. The interface was checked on September 7, 2026, using existing records without generating a new video.

Find the correct video in My Creations

Start from the Seedance 2.5 homepage and choose My Creations, or open your creations library directly. Sign in to the account that created the video.

The checked library offers All, Video and Image filters, Search prompts, and a sorting control. If you have many results, select Video and use the prompt or approximate creation date to identify the job.

  1. Open the matching video card to inspect Creation Details.
  2. Confirm the Model and Status. A record labelled Seedance 2.5 Lite is a different model selection from Seedance 2.5.
  3. Compare the prompt, aspect ratio, duration and created time with the clip you want.
  4. Use Download on the card or in Creation Details.
  5. Check your browser's download list, then open the saved file from your own storage.

The checked Seedance 2.5 record showed Success, a Download button and Copy Prompt. The website also states that successful creator tasks provide downloadable MP4 output. These observations establish the visible workflow; they are not an end-to-end download test or a guarantee that every older file remains available.

Open and regenerate is a different action. It is not needed to download an existing result. Do not submit another generation simply because an existing preview or download is having trouble.

Understand the 14-day file retention notice

The notice distinguishes media files from the information describing a generation:

Item Retention stated in the checked notice What to keep yourself
Generated video, image, audio and other media 14 days for tasks covered by the new policy The actual downloaded files
Generation records, prompts and other non-media data 2 months for tasks covered by the new policy Prompt, model, settings and job details useful for your project
Tasks submitted before August 20, 2026 at 11:00 UTC Previous retention policy applies Check the notice applicable to the older task; do not assume the same 14-day rule

The notice says media files are permanently deleted when they expire. It does not promise that an expired file can be restored from the surviving record.

The transition time is 20:00 in Japan and South Korea, and 11:00 UTC on August 20. For other locations, convert the timestamp to your own time zone. The policy's applicability is tied to the task's submission time, so a task submitted before the transition should not be reclassified just because you viewed it afterward.

The checked notice does not specify the exact expiry calculation for an individual file. Do not turn a rounded label such as “11 days ago” into a precise deletion countdown. Save an important result as soon as it is ready instead of waiting until the last day.

Make a backup you can actually use

A saved page address or a screenshot of the result is not the same as a saved video file. Keep the media itself, then store enough context to recognize it later.

A practical backup routine is:

  1. Save the original download. Keep it separate from compressed edits and social versions.
  2. Open the local file. Play the beginning, middle and end. Check the duration and, if audio is expected, listen to it.
  3. Save the prompt and settings. Use Copy Prompt where available and note the exact model, aspect ratio and creation date. Record other settings only if you can verify them.
  4. Use a descriptive filename. For example, product-lift_seedance25_take02_original.mp4. This is a naming example, not the site's automatic filename.
  5. Keep a second copy. Use storage appropriate to the project, such as an external drive or your team's approved backup location.

For an ongoing project, a small manifest is enough:

Field What to record
Project and take A recognizable name and version number
Model Exact label, including Lite if present
Source record Task identifier if shown, or prompt and created time
Original file Local path or approved team storage location
Playback checked Date checked and any missing picture or sound
Backup copy Where the second copy is stored

Keeping the prompt helps you understand how a result was made. It does not guarantee that submitting it again will recreate the same video.

If the video will not download, identify the failure first

What you see First check Useful next step
You cannot find the record Account, Video filter, prompt search and list pages Look for the existing job before starting another one
The record says Failed The task status and any visible error explanation Treat it as a generation issue rather than assuming a completed file exists
The record says Success but the preview will not play Whether Download is available and whether your browser already saved a file Open the saved file locally to distinguish a preview issue from a file issue
Clicking Download appears to do nothing The browser's download list and any specific message Record the message and check whether the file is already in your downloads folder
An older record remains but its media is unavailable The task date and applicable retention notice Check your own backups; do not assume the record can restore the file

A download problem alone does not prove that a file expired. The account, task state, browser and storage availability are separate checks. Likewise, Success describes the generation outcome; it does not override the retention notice.

If the issue remains unresolved, use the site's support contact, support@seedance2-5.com. Include the model, task identifier if available, approximate creation time, the visible status and the exact error message. Describe whether the problem affects the preview, the download or local playback. Do not include passwords or sign-in codes.

This is a diagnostic checklist, not a promise of recovery or a tested fix for every download failure.

Does downloading answer the watermark question?

No. File availability and watermark conditions are different questions. On September 7, the site's paid-plan cards listed “No watermark & high-speed downloads.” That is a published plan benefit, not evidence that every account, model or historical export has the same treatment.

This review did not test watermark behavior in downloaded files. Do not infer a free watermark-free entitlement from a Download button, from an older Seedance 2.0 comparison, or from a Seedance 2.5 Lite result. If that detail matters to your project, check the applicable current plan information and inspect your own export before relying on it.

Before you close the project

Confirm that the original media file opens from your own storage, the prompt and exact model are recorded, and a second copy exists. Recheck the retention notice in My Creations if you are relying on a task submitted before the policy change.

The useful endpoint is a playable file you control—not just a successful entry in the library.
